We are Cheryl and Ray, and Plum Granny Farm is our USDA Certified Organic small family farm located in the north central piedmont area of North Carolina. We are blessed with 54 beautiful acres of rolling countryside just south of Hanging Rock State Park in the Capella community, near Winston-Salem.
We are building on our heritage as a NC Century Farm, as the farm has been in continuous production in Cheryl’s family since the 1850’s. Cheryl’s father was born in the house we live in now. We moved here in 2009 to take the farm in a new direction – from tobacco and beef to Organic fruits and veggies. And now Plum Granny Farm is the only Organic fruit and vegetable farm in Stokes and surrounding counties. Alongside the usual tomatoes and potatoes and greens, we also grow strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, garlic, ginger, turmeric, and other specialty crops.
More than just growing great tasting produce, we want to build community and help recreate the connections between people and farms. To that end we are almost exclusively a retail direct-to-consumer farm, and we host many on-farm events like workshops, farm tours, and pick-your-own days.
Although we have had other careers in our life journeys, we both have deep connections to our farming heritage. Cheryl grew up on this farm and her father, grandfather and great-grandfather all practiced the art of cultivation on this soil. Ray has his farming roots in Kansas where his mother grew up and he spent early childhood years amid some of the most beautiful soil that has ever been seen.
